π Texas Governor orders state police to assist federal agents in immigrant arrests
Uriel J. GarcΓa, The Texas Tribune.- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday ordered the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to assist federal immigration agents in locating and arresting undocumented immigrants with outstanding warrants. Abbott stated that DPS teams will coordinate with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to track and deport thousands of undocumented immigrants across Texas.
According to Abbott, approximately 5,400 immigrants in Texas have active arrest warrants, though he did not specify the nature of the alleged crimes. This directive aligns with intensified federal enforcement under President Donald Trump, whose administration has prioritized mass deportations. ICE and other federal agencies have recently conducted operations across Texas.
Since 2021, Texas has allocated over $3 billion to immigration enforcement under Operation Lone Star. Abbott, a strong Trump ally, is expected to play a significant role in the administrationβs immigration strategy.
