Berenice Garcia, The Texas Tribune.- The death toll from catastrophic flooding in Central Texas has climbed to at least 79, with search teams continuing to look for 10 missing girls and a counselor from Camp Mystic. Kerr County, where the Christian girls' camp is located, accounted for 68 deaths, including 28 children. An additional 11 cases were confirmed in surrounding counties. Gov. Greg Abbott expanded disaster declarations to six counties, while President Trump approved federal aid. Over 400 first responders have rescued more than 850 people, many of whom were clinging to trees amid rising waters. The Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes following torrential rain. Despite flash flood warnings from the National Weather Service, local officials said the stormβs intensity was unexpected. Concerns persist over delayed evacuations and inadequate infrastructure. Federal and state officials pledged full support, and communities continue relief efforts while grappling with the scale of the tragedy.
